Imo, good games overcome negative hype, just as bad games cannot be disquised by positive spin.

If the game is good, people will play it, regardless of what other say on a forum.   If it is a bad game, people will leave it, regardless of what others say on a forum.

For myself, I am interested to see how ANet responds to the betaweekend feedback.   Will they work to make improvements, or will they dismiss the criticisms and ignore the identified issues?    How a company improves/responds is an important aspect to me.

Couldn't agree more here.

A lot here are acting like what they are seeing is the finished product. Will be interesting come next week what the devs have to say. If memory serves they always said that the games release date would emerge from how well the beta events go.

Hopefully next week they announce the next beta event and not a release date. :P

I like a lot about this post. I can sort of answer your last wonder, since last GW beta is playing out very much like this weekend. There was little feedback given to us in the last beta and little improvement overall in this one. That said, somewhere I do expect huge performance gains one of these beta's prior to release. If you are going to have huge dynamic player events, the game has to run well, otherwise you have nothing short of a mess.

Nope its not an opinion. Look up the TOP 5 MMOS world wide and I bet 4 of them are Asain. 

Getting into the beta yesterday I was pretty pumped.  I've been wanting to play this game for 3 yrs.  It to me is a huge letdown.  I didn't want to sign up just to play a Online RPG, but that's what it feels like.  It does not feel like an MMO.  Too many instances, too much loading screen, boring scripted dialog cinematics, empty world with people your just grouped up with.  I'm sure I will enjoy it down the road, but as for MMO's it has not won me over, I would rather go back to SWTOR,but the combat system is one of the reason I left that game. TERA is still the game to beat in my mind, sorry ArenaNet you just didn't win me over, at least I know I can play your game without paying monthly for it, that's good, cause the way the game is designed I wouldn't pay monthly for it.

I even read the GW2 books getting myself pumped for the game, which I did enjoy reading.  Argh, I just wanted  this to be the next big game for me. =(

The problem is you haven't said why you enjoy the game and what makes it different. On the other hand, the so-called haters,[sacrasm] who know the guys who hate it so much they plunked down 60 bucks[/sarcasm], have said the problem is its just like all the other junk out there.

How about telling us why its different from the rest of the themeparks, instead of empty statements?

I haven't played it, but I've been around long enough to know that the if a game is getting a lot of bad reviews from players, then its a game I need to steer clear of. Its not because of "haters".
