Originally posted by Eletheryl I am much less skeptical about TSW than I was about either TOR or GW2 and can't wait to get my hands on the beta in a few weeks! That said, even if the game rules beyond belief I think it is a bit handicapped by not being in the fantasy genre. As an example, CoH was launched in 2004 and was probably the best game on the market until the launch of WoW and did some things better than WoW, imo. But CoH never achieved even close to WoW's level of success in large part because of the genre. And personally, if I was developing a game that I wanted to be successful, I'd put it in the superhero genre long before I'd consider putting it in the alternate-reality-sci-fi genre. Hopefully TSW will be the coolest of the cool beans. If it is then it'll probably peak at around 400k subs. GW2 video review!! |

One thing, do you know that there is the overflow system which basically is GW2's queue system? And there is "guesting", which lets you play on other servers where you have friends on?

Originally posted by CrunkJuice2 GW2 is Arenanets first MMO actually, GW is not an MMO, it is a CORPG. As for having GW2 and SW:ToR in the same sentence, I would not worry too much. SW:ToR is a good game, but a bad MMO, GW2 is shaping up to be a good game, and a good MMO. A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others. |

Originally posted by Kuppa I know about the overflow system and there was evidently a bug that was fixed. This doesn't explain why the high population servers were the ones that people were locked out of the most and servers like mine had issues at peak playing times. SWTOR, CO, and others basically have the same type of overflow system and swtor still had queueing so I'm not convinced that Anet is entirely accurate when they say that the overflow is all that is needed. I guess we'll see at launch. I have been informed, post video, of the guesting. My understanding is that you can only pve as a guest? If that's the case, it would still be very problematic if you were to play GW2 and then join a guild that played on another server as you would not be able to even create a new character that would be able to participate with the guild in WvW, which will likely be a focus for most guilds. I stand by what I said: this needs to be changed by launch or there will be PR issues. GW2 video review!! |

Originally posted by iamflymolo So, the overflow system is actually a new concept in GW2. Like you mention, it wasn't working as planned in beta. The idea is you get placed in an overflow server when yours is full and you also get placed on a queue. You will then get noticed when you can actually go to the real server you belong. Notice you are still playing while in the queue, so its not really in any other game and GW2 doesn't ever let you stand in a queue doing nothing just watching the queue move along. But again, this wasn't working well in the beta and Anet already knows this and said they are working on it. That is true, you cannot participate in WvW for another server while guesting for obvious reasons. In your scenario you would have to actually transfer to that guilds server. But again this restriction is there for a reason, you don't really want people jumping servers when WvW is about server vs server combat. You always fight for one server, your home server. If you want to move from home server you will have to pay and you cannot change to another server in 7 days(I think that is the number). |

Originally posted by Eletheryl [Mod Edit] First of, what's this nonsense about unlocking everything by level 5? You don't get any elite skills until level 30. Also, ANet tried the "500 skills" thing in GW1, so I guess that totally makes TSW a GW1 clone, eh? What happened with the 100s of skills was that there were flavor-of-the-month builds, the best skills for a particular purpose and half the skills were never used. To this day they are still trying to balance things, nerf the OP combos and add some spice to underused skills. I doubt TSW can manage 100s of skills any better. Now, TSW can still be fun, I enjoyed GW1 for several years, we'll just have to see how it shakes out. |

Originally posted by Kuppa It does make sense to have restrictions due to the WvW aspect. I would much rather see a scenario where they allowed free transfers but lengthened the transfer time, say, to a month. I applied for a guild online for Rift after I already had some level 50 characters. I was able to transfer all my characters to the appropriate server due to Rift's transfer policy. Were this to happen in WoW, I'd probably just bite the bullet and start a new character on the guild's server rather than paying for a transfer. In GW2 the only option is to pay for a transfer. I'm not saying that Anet doesn't have the right to do this in their game, I'm simply saying that this will be a PR issue - and it could be a bad one. GW2 video review!! |

Originally posted by iamflymolo Be honest, the only reason Trion have free transfers in Rift is due to the massive loss of subs, and a lot of servers being dead, if they had charged people to transfer server, that would definately have been a bad PR issue. Arenanet charging people to transfer server is fine, they already have it set up so you can guest on any server you like, which is in effect a free transfer anyway. A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others. |

Originally posted by iamflymolo While I agree with you on a free transfer is the way to go on most MMOs, not in GW2. To be honest, you are not paying a sub for this game and I feel that charging for a transfer makes sense. Now, as far as making new characters in other servers that could be a let down for many and I understand it. I also understand why Anet does not allow this, and its basically for the same reason of the WvW issues it brings. Still, I found it great on their part to allow you to do pve in other servers for free. But I see how some may not like the idea of not being allowed to create characters in other servers. |
