I don't roleplay per se and have way too much to do there. However Roleplayers are loads of fun to watch do their thing and you are right they are definitely serious and don't lose their chracter at any point. Might actually be a good place for actors to practice. In fact there is now an Actors Studio in SL although that is for Machinima and plays. A few plays are being performed as well. There are a ton of events musical and Art Openings etc. And of course building whatever you can. Try Builder's Brewery as they give free classes on all kinds of things. |

Graphics have been upgraded with shadows and projected light based on your hardware. You need at minimum a duocore system with a 9800 GT to experiemnce higher graphics with little or no lag.. A quadcore if you are interedted in shadow mode. Hardware is a huge difference in what you see and smooth play. Check out Second Life Machinima on youTube http://www.youtube.com/user/fuzonacid to see the things possible. |

basically you are right unless you created something on yor computer and then uploaded it for sale. If LInden Labs disappears every red cent you paid for items is gone since it's stored on their servers. I have been told it is considered play money so you got to be careful. So if you sell shoes that you built you can make as many copies you want. Not sure you can download themn to your PC however for backup. RL is the same. Tomorrow of the Government says your paper money or stocks are worthless...then it is and as we all know that has happened. |

The issues you are lag from the server however you may not have had your network settings set correctly in the viewer. SL seems to max out around 1500kbs at the moment so not really much point in setting it higher (there are other graphic settings to play with as well such as AA etc). Your PC seems fast enough for what you are planning to do. I would definitely recommend getting a space navigator mouse. ATen thousand times easier to move around and cam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEAyMDDSh5g
With your 3D skills it should be an intersting endeavor.
